art always had a way of pulling me back in.
Throughout my childhood, creativity fueled me. I’ve always had an innate confidence that my hands would bring to life whatever wild vision I had in my mind. However, my insecurity in building a career out of something that came so easily to me caused me to play it safe, until I finally decided to surrender to creative flow, allowing the unknown to guide me.
Hi! I’m Becky, a dedicated abstract artist with a passion for conceptual art. I love to use patterns and lines to balance negative and positive space, creating visual harmony in any space I work in. My main focus in life is follow my heart and do what I love, hopefully inspiring others to let go of their fears and do the same. As of late, you can find me paintbrush in hand, rockin’ my painter’s fanny pack and color-stained hands, up-close and personal with an exciting mural project. But my artistic life hasn't always looked like this.
I used to let the uncertainties about careers and life choices lead the way, urging me to opt for the most practical path rather than the exciting path of paint-splattered jeans and innovative creativity I was destined for.
Thankfully the universe had my back….
While teaching English to preschoolers in Africa, I found myself filling extra time by painting partition boards that separated the classrooms. While managing a retail store in Missouri, I found myself designing anything and everything from t-shirts and sale signs to big-scale display windows. While earning my degree in Electronic Arts with an emphasis in Interactive Media Design in an attempt to keep my creativity “practical”, I found myself pushing the boundaries, designing outside the lines, and always craving a bigger, bolder, more unhindered canvas.
My childlike imaginative nature was screaming to be heard and the universe handed me opportunity after to opportunity to listen until finally, one day, I leaned in. Now, art is not just my time-filler or creative indulgence - art is my focus. And as a muralist, my creative canvases are finally as they should be - limitless.
WHAT IS IT LIKE WORKING WITH ME?
There is no greater feeling as an artist than hearing, “This was exactly what I was hoping for - I just didn’t know how to explain it or capture it myself!” and that is the result I continually strive for.
When we work together, I’ll absorb your vision in a way that makes it personal to me and allows the creative energy of the universe to pour out of me in patterns and flowing lines. Together we’ll evaluate multiple concepts, work through any kinks, and have fun finding ease within the entire process. And if you’d rather let go of the logistics and leave me to it? That works too. I’m here to make your vision a reality.
AND WHEN I’M NOT WORKING?
You can find me dancing with absolute abandon in the center of any room (it’s a mini-goal of mine to start dance parties everywhere I go), spending time with family and friends, getting grounded with yoga, exploring Chicago and the rest of the world, drawing, reading, and one of my all time favorites - being a total chef and making delicious dinners for my loved ones!
